Back down from the mountain we headed to the oldest place I could find.

Although by English standards it would hardly make it into history in this part of the world it is considered very old.

Fort Langley was the first fort built in B.C. by the Hudson Bay Company for trade with the Aboriginal people
It actually predates British Columbia itself.
Now a national historic site it is preserved in exactly the condition it was over a hundred years ago.

On the way in a nice lady told us that one of the buildings was the oldest. This building was built in 1839 and I was waiting for Val to say "I have shoes older than that" but she held her tongue. *lol*

Here Les examines the fort wall made from 12" logs. Because of this wall everything is quiet inside the fort even though there is quite a lot of traffic noise outside.

In it's time aproximately 100 people lived permanently within it's walls

After being filled in on some of the history in a few of the buildings we headed home to have dinner in a local restaurant.

Then on to Our house for dessert and a stroll around our garden.

I still marvel at the wonders of the internet bringing people together who would never have known of each other's existence.
